In using the Internet to run or promote a business, it is
important to your success to be listed with the search engines.
They are your customer's tool of choice for locating web sites -
outranking banner advertising and all other forms of media.
Before you submit your site to search engines,
be sure it is ready, not only for submission (by their rules) but also ready
to be indexed by their robots, a.k.a. spiders.
There are several important factors in getting your site
listed in search engines and directories. Although the most
obvious may be to submit to the various directories manually, one of the
most important is to make your pages easy to find by the search engine
spiders. The best thing you can do to help this is to include the
proper META tags within your Head tags. These META tags may not be
included in your HTML with some "automated" software. View source and add it
manually . . . yes you can. (Even I learned something about it.)
A great place to learn about Meta Tags is spider-food.net .
This site takes the "mystery" out of the process. Then,
check
this site to find out what the top 20 keywords are for the week.
Are there some parts of your web site that you don't want to
be indexed in search engines? Then you should have a robots.txt file
in your server directory. Check with your ISP to see if they allow it first. If so,
Are you ready to submit? If you're sure, click here for more.
